Earphone specifications are close to useless. Frequency response curves are smoothed, and driver size says little about sound. What varies by price is fit, tuning and reliability.
Budget tier
Expect decent tuning and a plastic shell. Priorities: a secure fit, replaceable tips, and a cable that does not fail at the connector. Sound quality is adequate for podcasts and calls.
Mid tier
Better isolation, usable noise cancellation, and multipoint pairing. This is where most people should buy, because the gains above it are smaller for casual listening.
Premium tier
Marginal gains in tuning, better microphones for calls, and longer support. Worth it if you listen for hours daily or take calls in noisy places.
What matters regardless of price
- Fit and tip selection, which changes sound more than the driver.
- Replaceable parts.
- Whether the app is required for basic use.
Bottom line: buy for fit and a return policy. Everything else is tuning taste.
