Two phones can run the same game at the same frame rate and feel completely different. The difference is latency: the delay between your touch and the response on screen.
Where the delay accumulates
- Touch sampling and digitiser reporting.
- Compositing and display scan-out.
- Thermal throttling, which lengthens frame times mid-session.
- Bluetooth audio, which adds a separate and larger delay.
What helps
Game mode with touch boost, a wired or low-latency audio path, and disabling battery saver. A cooler phone is a faster phone: throttling is the biggest variable after ten minutes.
What does not
Marketing figures for touch sampling that apply to a single panel mode. Frame-rate counters that ignore frame pacing, where uneven frame times feel worse than a lower steady rate.
The practical test
Play for fifteen minutes, then judge. Launch-day impressions come from a phone that has not yet heat-soaked.
Bottom line: latency is a system property. No single specification fixes it.
