Android ships with more capability switched off than on. These settings are worth five minutes each.
Communication
- Call screening for unknown numbers, where your carrier supports it.
- Live captioning for calls and media, useful far beyond accessibility.
- Per-app notification channels, so one noisy category does not mute the rest.
Privacy
- Private DNS, which blocks a lot of tracking at the network layer.
- Permission auto-reset for apps you rarely open.
- Approximate location for apps that do not need precision.
Battery and storage
Adaptive battery, storage sense, and a check on which apps hold wake locks. One misbehaving app usually explains a battery complaint.
Accessibility, for everyone
Colour correction, larger touch targets and text scaling improve readability for most people, not only those with a diagnosed need.
Bottom line: ten minutes in settings does more for daily use than most new installs.
